I had to put myself in time-out last week.

I got all excited about a shiny new tool for organizing social media posts and spent way too long researching it before I realized I already own two tools that do exactly the same thing. Just sitting there. Waiting. Judging me silently. Doh!

Anyway, it reminded me that the tech isn't usually the problem. The person using it is. And I say that with full love and zero judgment because I have been that person more times than I care to admit.

Which brings me to a story.

A few years ago I helped an author do something that sounds almost embarrassingly simple. She had written a book. A real, full, pour-your-heart-into-every-page book for parents raising children with special needs. And it had been sitting on her hard drive for seven months because she couldn't figure out how to actually sell it.

Seven months.

She had tried to figure it out herself, gotten frustrated, and eventually just stopped trying. The book existed but nobody could buy it because the tech piece felt like a wall she couldn't get over.

I set up a simple ecommerce button connected to the PDF version of her book. It took me about twenty minutes.

When it went live she started emailing everyone she knew. Posting on social everywhere. She was giddy. Laughing. Literally laughing with relief and excitement because something she had poured so much love into was finally out in the world and people could actually buy it.

I stood there watching her and thought, this is why I do this.

Now I'll be honest. I have absolutely forgotten to connect a form to a button before and sent a whole group of people clicking somewhere that led to absolutely nothing. So I am not standing here claiming to be perfect. I have made every tech mistake in the book at least once. But that's exactly why I can help you. I've already hit the walls so you don't have to.
